Summer is the time to spend some of your hard-earned money from those dreaded cold wintry days on a little fun in the sun. The last thing anyone wants to do is take the enjoyment out of beautiful weather and rising bank accounts and put it into auto repairs. It’s even more of a hassle when working the 9-5 and weekends are the only time you can get into a service center.
That being said, taking care of minor issues when they need attention will save you a ton of money and stress before they become emergency repairs. Here at Nation Care Service Center, we thought it’d be helpful to share what we see and fix the most in the sweltering summertime and how you can avoid these issues.
1. Engine Overheating
It cannot be a surprise to keep an eye on this one during the warmest months of the year. Sometimes it is impossible not to notice it – especially when there’s a cloud of steam coming up from underneath your hood! Be sure to check the temperature gauge on your dashboard and see to it that it does not go into the overheat/red area. To prevent this from happening, check that your coolant levels get filled to the top every few months.
2. Flat Tires
You want to hit the road this summer, and so does everyone else. On top of the amount of traffic, many road fixtures and construction happening on countless major roads gives clear indication as to why flat tires happen a lot during this season. To keep from having to change a tire in the heat on the side of a highway, giving your tires a little love throughout the year can help. Check your tire pressure and replenish with air (free at every Wawa!) once a month and make sure the treads are up-to-par well (you’ll need that for winter time).
3. Dead Battery
One common misconception with car batteries dying is that they really only happen in the wintertime because of below-freezing temperatures, but imagine how hot it gets under a metal hood in the summer. The juices do evaporate! Having your battery, starter and alternator checked a few times a year is a good idea.
